Why Greek Life at TU, and Why KA
Parents and incoming students,
I’m Matt Mangan, the Recruitment Chairman of Kappa Alpha Order at the University of Tulsa. Greek life has given me and my peers countless opportunities to form lasting friendships, make important connections, and create unforgettable memories. With the new experiences and new challenges that come with the transition into college, making the decision to join Greek life, and specifically Kappa Alpha, can give you a support system for not only the best years of your life, but the rest of your life.
At Kappa Alpha Order, we embody success in many areas. Academically, Greek Life in general consistently achieves a higher GPA than the all-school average. That is to say, the average GPA of students involved in Greek Life is regularly higher than the campus average. Furthermore, Kappa Alpha in particular has held the first or second highest GPA across fraternity row for the past 16 semesters. That’s 8 years of excellence. The past two consecutive years, we recruited the biggest New Member classes on Fraternity Row averaging 22 new members per year, additionally, we achieved the highest Active Member GPA on fraternity row this past spring clocking in at 3.454 across 70 members. Kappa Alpha is consistent with our academic rankings because we utilize programs like brother-to-brother tutoring, scholarships offered through the national office, and incentives for achieving good grades.
We host brotherhood events often, ensuring a tightly knit group of young men that value trust, loyalty, and a competitive drive which helps to push one another to strive for greatness. Brotherhood dinners, paintball, pick up basketball, and other regular events keep our brotherhood strong. To top it off, the annual float trip is the pinnacle of every KA’s summer.
Socially, we host a multitude of social functions each semester which cultivate great relationships with other sororities on campus. There is always activity going on in the chapter house, creating a fun and welcoming environment at all times. Additionally, you can find a KA in just about any group on campus, including University Ambassadors, Orientation, Student Association, Presidential Leader’s Fellowship, and more. Because of this, it is very easy to get involved in other campus organizations, especially ones in which other members are involved in as well.
For two of the past three years, our chapter has won the Marshall Award. This award is awarded to the top three Kappa Alpha chapters in the nation. Mu Chapter at the University of Tulsa has been around since the 1930’s, and even almost 90 years later, we still aim for the same excellence like our brothers before us.
Spring Recruitment is open. Whereas Fall Recruitment is a formal process where each house is visited, Spring Recruitment is informal. Reach out to our Recruitment Chair or any active member to learn more about the fraternity. Events are soon to come towards the end of the Fall 2022 Semester and the beginning of the Spring 2023 semester. We hope to meet you soon!
If you (parents, guardians, or students) have any questions or concerns regarding KA or Greek Life at the University of Tulsa in general, please feel free to contact me. We are all excited to see you on campus next year and want to make sure you are prepared for the experience of a lifetime!
Fraternally,
Matt Mangan
